Guilt

A feeling of having committed a grave mistake, an unforgivable blunder, a sense of shame and regret, being responsible for having done something wrong, lingering troubling thoughts of repentance, a self conscious emotion evaluating oneself on the downside, overcome by distressing and negative analysis of one’s committed actions – all these are the symptoms of an operational guilt manifesting in a human being.

Signs of being Defensive, Argumentative, Low on Confidence / Self Esteem, Distant from family & friends are some such signs.

Guilt can be caused by a number of factors like :-

Personal / Societal Expectations from oneself

Choices made by self

Health Concerns

Surviving Trauma / Disaster

Conflicts within and /or with the others

There are many ways one can overcome guilt like accepting one’s mistakes, making use of the learnings from the mistakes, bringing about the necessary changes and understanding that its normal to make mistakes-learn from them and move on in life.

However, despite having done all of the above and making many more amends, there are traces of guilt that just do not go away and keep spooling in the back ground. This can result in a kind of a residual guilt that continues to stay on and create deep seated, under rooted issues and complications.
